Learn The Better Way to Cleanse

Have you ever had one of those week's (or months)? You know, the ones where you eat REALLY bad, feel like utter crap, feel bloated, heavy, slow, and just gross? Or maybe it's the holiday season and you spent the whole weekend eating like crap. Whatever the case may be, whenever this happens to me, where I fall out of my normal habits of eating healthy and exercising, I have a go-to solution that helps me lose weight and get back on the right track of a healthy lifestyle. It's a 9 day cleanse.

This isn't your average cleanse. On this cleanse, you actually get to eat. It's about eating good-for-you foods and using those foods to cleanse your body from all the processed junk you may have gorged on.

The basic rules of the plan are as follows:

There are three phases to this cleanse. If you don't like the lunch, switch with another Phase 1 lunch, etc. So if you want to switch meals, only do so within the phase you are in. This goes for all meals except breakfast. You are free to choose a breakfast from any of the three phases. If you like a particular breakfast (like me) you can use the same breakfast for all the days or mix up the breakfasts throughout any of the phases. Just plan accordingly.

Drink plenty of water!

The only things you are allowed to drink on this cleanse are water and green tea (only sweetened with stevia). You should drink half your weight in ounces of water (i.e. if you weigh 150 pounds you should drink 75 ounces of water a day). This will help flush toxins from your body.

Follow the Plan.

What happens if you mess up and fall off the plan? Do not pick up where you left off. This plan is designed to do from start to finish in the specific order of the phases. If you mess up, you'll have to start over from the beginning.

Exercise.

You can exercise but the suggestion is to keep it minimal. However, you know your body and what it can handle. If you’re used to working out you may be able to continue your regular workouts. Just make sure to listen to your body very closely, it’ll tell you if you need to slow down and take it easy. On the contrary, if you’re new to working out I don’t suggest you begin a new workout regimen. Wait until after the 9 Day Cleanse to start a workout routine.

Men vs. Women.

You may find these portion sizes small. This is so your body can heal by eating all natural foods. That is another reason why I suggest you limit your activity or greatly reduce it. Men may add an extra 2 oz. of protein per meal.

Tracking.

Before starting the meal plan, weigh yourself and take measurements. The one really great measurement you should take is a body fat measurement.

Take the following measurements:

  1. Chest - at nipple height

  2. Waist - at belly button

  3. Hips - largest circumference

  4. Thighs - midpoint of thigh (both thighs)

  5. Arms - midpoint of arm (both arms)

  6. Body Weight - in lbs.

  7. Body fat %

Intermittent Fasting - Optional (for better results).

While on this cleanse try doing it while eating intermittently. What does this mean? Try eating in a shorter window of time, rather than all day. For example, eat only within an 8-hour window (i.e. 10:00 am to 6:00 pm). There are several benefits to this, the biggest being gut health. Eating this way will also help your body attain ketosis, which means your body will be burning fat instead of insulin (which is why we seriously cut sugar and carbs on this cleanse). I know that the world has thought that you fuel your metabolism by continuously eating, but history and studies have shown that just isn’t true. Intermittent fasting (where you shorten your window of time eating) was exactly what our ancestors did. They hunted, gathered and ate food when they could – during the daylight hours. That shortened the window of time they were actually eating. This also gave their body the much-needed rest it needed to properly digest food and burn fat. I know this may be new to some people and hard to grasp, but I suggest you try it. You will find by the end of this cleanse you will not only have burned a ton of fat, but you will also gain major control over cravings and the habit of eating all the time.
