I know, I know, water doesn’t always hit the spot and it seriously can lack in flavor.
If you have a hard time swallowing the fact that we all should be drinking more water, use the following 10 sneaky ways to drink more water to help you achieve that “half your body weight in ounces” water requirement.
You can do that in several ways. Flavor enhancers like Crystal Lite (my favorite is Blueberry Raspberry Drink Mix); infuse your water bottles with fruit (think strawberries, lemon, watermelon, blueberries), vegetables (cucumber, celery) or herbs (basil, mint, rosemary), see below; or you can add some stevia or honey to your water to add a sweeter taste.
Drink 16 ounces before every meal.
Not only will you get your water intake in this way, but this trick will also help keep you feeling fuller so you are less likely to overeat.
Need a bathroom break with all this water you’re drinking?
Drink a glass after you’ve visited the bathroom. Use regular breaks during the day as reminders to drink whenever you are up and about.
There’s an app for that.
If you have problems remembering to drink water and need reminders, these apps are great to keep you accountable for drinking your goal. Water Alert (iPhone) and Water Drink Reminder (Android) are great apps to keep you on track toward your water intake goals.
Take it to the next level and get a smart water bottle.

Stick to the one-for-one rule when drinking alcohol.
I’m sure we’ve all heard this rule. For every glass of alcohol you drink, drink a full glass of water. This helps with hangovers and also helps keep you from getting dehydrated.
Choose sparkling water over pop (soda).
Instead of drinking pop, which is loaded with too much unwanted sugar, try sparkling water instead. You get the same benefits of water but with much more pizzazz. Need more flavor? Try any of the flavor options listed in #1.
Invest in a filter.
Filtered water tastes much better than tap water, making it easier to drink. Get a home filter or try a filtered water bottle like this Brita Filtered Water Bottle.
Eat foods high in water.
Some of the highest water containing foods are watermelon, grapefruit, cucumber, and zucchini. Eat these types of foods to help keep you hydrated.
Drink 2 Glasses Before Bed. I drink about 12-18 oz before bed.
I take it with the medication I need to take right before bed, plus it keeps me hydrated through the night. Another perk is that I wake up in the morning without an alarm to go to the bathroom. This may take some getting used to and you may wake up several times throughout the night. If this is an issue for you, just move your water intake up to 2-3 hours before you go to bed.
